Would like to share my experience of clearing green water problem in both my 2ft tanks.

I change water daily 30% and in less than a week the water is crystal clear. Came to me as a surprise...I came home after work 1 day and find the water clearer than the nite before which I changed 30% [:0] I picked up this tip from some site. Currently changing water every 2 days since the water is clear now at 30% and slowly will reduce to once a week. Another thing is that I don't overfeed my fish, just enough to see a little tummy will do.

I've used UV light in the pass but it is only a temporary solution, green water came back in less than a week

I've tried this method on another 2 ft and it worked also, hope this helps.

Properly nutrient imbalance that is causing your tank to have "green water". Changing water does help but the cause of the problem must be address or you might face the problem again later....looks like either a PO4 or NO3 lacking tank?

I have to agree with Peter on this. Changing water alone does not solve the problem. Nutrient imbalance is definately the problem and also could be lighting or it could be due to a few combination.

The reduce in feeding maybe the key to your rcovery as less nutrients are released into the water.
But this is only a guess.
    Cheers!!

    guys
he HAS cleared the green water
i find that clearing green water CAN be helped by changing the water
why? because it lowers the level of stuff in the water, and the algae doesn't grow quite as fast, allowing plants to catch up
    hope that makes sense

    Go clean up the filter.

Gunk in the filter will rot and give out NH3. Algae in the water love that.

Caution: don't end up killing all the beneficial bacteria in the filter. Use tank water to rinse the media, instead of tap water.

1 of the 2ft now 3 days never change water already, still crystal clear. Did not wash my filter also (which is a internal powered sponge filter)

I also noticed that no more green spot algae growing on my glosso and more new leaves started to grow!
