    Hi all,

I've just set up my new shrimp tank. I have one question. Do you all clear away the empty shells that the shrimps leave behind after moulting? Or do you all just leave it there and let it disintegrate by itself?

Wonder if the latter would lead to an increase in calcium in the water haha!

I just left them there and they can be the food source for the other shrimp in the tank.

Just leave it there. Shrimps will later consume it to get more calcium.

leftover shell looks like a ghost shell. transparent in colour. best is to leave it inside because the shrimps will consume the nutrients left in the shell after they change out of it.

for that, i don't think they will. it's best to remove dead bodies as they might emit ammonia and harm the rest of the shrimps.

Re: Leftover shells after CRS moults

Just my two cents, when i just started keeping CRS and a few died the color got really intense just after they died then they turned pink like someone boiled it and put in back in. I usually take out the shrimps that died but later on i heard that the other shrimps would usually eat it because they are scavengers by nature and that its one way to 'test' if your tank is healthy or not.

I personally haven't tried it so don't quote me for it. Haha.
Although i believe there's no harm in leaving one or two dead shrimps in the tank. Extra food for hungry mouths.

Anyone out there can confirm this?
