    BC...I ask him to check for nitrate because it indicates that the nitrogen cycle is more or less complete once nitrate is detected...if not better be careful and do more water changes.

    Not true. Nitrate will already be there during the NO2 spike phase. You will never know from NO3 level whether tank has cycled.

    Do I really need an airstone? I already have 2 filters liao.
    One canister and one overhead filter. Is it enough?

    andy, the airstone suggestion is more of a stop-gap, in case it's low oxygen that's killing the fish. But if you can't find out what is the water problem or do not attempt to learn about keeping fish healthy, i dun think we can help much beyond this.
