4 to 5th July, - trip to northern Guangdong looking for Goniosaurus sp, we failed to find anything. But the following weekend, I made a come back, surprisingly in Shanghai...a mega city..with estimated population more than 20 million..where got nature??

    12/7

Fishing in the moring...somewhere in Songjiang district, south western Shanghai...just look for any water(as long as not very polluted) with some aquatic plants...

the target is rounded tail paradise fish - Macropodus ocellatus. Hector from Spain keeps fish in pond, he tried M.opercularis but didn't survive the winter, so he is here to look for something that can live well outside the house in winter.

Without much trouble, we caught the target..my very first time to catch this species too. There were also Cyprinus carassius, Pseudorasbora parva, Rhodeus ocellatus, Hypseleotris swinhonis, Monopterus albus, mosquito fish and American crayfish..

The main event of the day was at night - beetle hunting

Again somewhere in Shanghai but even nearer to downtown...

Some common frog - Rana plancyi, there were also Rana nigromaculata

    Result -

    Dorcus curvidens hopei x 4, 1 escaped..!!!!!
Dorcus titanus titanus x 2, 1 big one escaped..!!!

    Dorcus titanus titanus

Dorcus curvidens hopei, 50mm plus specimen..nice shape

and the biggest one hiding in hole..they are very sensitive creature..

the biggest specimen - 63 mm!!! A dream(since 20 years ago) come true!!!

And what my friends call it - The God Tree!!!

They call any tree that attracts many beetles as God Tree. Catching an Ookuwa on tree is a big dream come true!!!
