    help!

my tank is infested with BBA.

    it's a 2 feet tank.
with 8 hours of PL light a day.
    forgot how many watts already.
with co2 when the light is on, around 1bps.

    what maybe the reasons?

    too much light?
should i reduce the amount of photosynthesis period?

    Re: BBA infested tank. HELP!

BBA formula = high light + insufficient co2 + poor water circulation

Would encourage to increase co2 to 30ppm or use a drop checker for easy checks.
8 hour photoperiod is good, but would want to check your total waltage. Depending on plant type, diff wpg is recommended.

For exsisting bba, you can remove them with excel. Turn off your filter and inject the excel via a syringe directly onto affected area and leave it for about 5 mins before on-ing the filter again. Carry out this procedure for a few days and bba would turn white and disappear over a few days. Daily dosing of excel is also helpful in keeping bba in check.

even for shrimps? no effect on them? some say they're very sensitive, and especially to excel.. anyway how to measure how many ppm of co2 i have in my tank if without a drop checker?

my tank is 2ft, not alot of plants,(maybe thats why got BBA) CO2 going at 2bps with a ladder diffuser.

    Re: BBA infested tank. HELP!

I have dosed 2times the recommended dosage into shrimp tank. no casualities for me though
To be on safe side, dose daily using recommended amount on the spots. eventually it will remove the bba

Depends on what soil are you using. Gex and Ada or similar soils with kh altering properties, drop checker is the only way. There is a calculation of your co2 ppm using a relationship between kh and ph.

You can check it out on this site

If you can remove the plants from the tank e.g. anubias, take them out and squirt/brush some excel on the infestations. i did that with my anubias for only 1 time and the bba disappeared within 2 days.

Get a syringe and squirt it over the BBA when you do water changed.

I use Hydrogen Peroxide. Its way down cheap ($0.99) and also does job very well.

before you jump into any of the suggestion here, you should show us your tank first. once we see the tank, the replies could be different altogether

i'm no sure if we are able to get H2O2 that easilyhere in singapore.. it'll be good if we can get it easily. then we wont need to stick to certain products.

    Re: BBA infested tank. HELP!

I've tried everything from boiling hot water to bleach, so far excel is the only one that seems to work effectively.

Load it up into a syringe via hard tubing + silicone tubing so that it can reach hard to reach places. Then just squirt away at the BBA, you'll be surprised how quickly the BBA will die off, 2-3 days and stubborn clumps can be dealt with.

It turns red first, then whitish, then disappears.

You can also consider just dosing it straight into the tank, overdosing by 2x seems to have no ill effect for me.

Sometimes overdosing it for few days doesnt work. In my tank, it takes about 2 weeks of Excel overdosing before these nasty BBA are gone.
