    Wonder if anyone could help.

My tap water is gh6.5 kh 0 ph6.5

I add tetra aquasafe everytime i change water.
on top of that i use dennerle E15 and sera florena.

However, evertime i check the tank water it is gh6.5 kh8 and ph 7.3

my tank is 120 litres with cooling fan, temp 26.
i use 30 W FL light with reflector.
Light on 10 hr a day
    densely planted
co2 injection via gas tank and reactor.
    internal filter juwell.
    fish load
24 cardinal, 3 SAE, 2 oto, 70 malayan shrimps, 2 godlen algae eater, 2 clown loach, 1 small feeder fish for LH.

Any ideas why the KH and PH change so drastic.
Is it because of the Tetra solution?

Is tap water safe for adding to tank if I leave it in a pail overnight?

    Please advise. Thank you

usually, if you're getting ph rises and kh rises, then its due to limestone/calcium carbonate in your tank.

eg: coral chips, improper gravel/substrate, rocks

Whats unusual is that your GH remains constant at 6.5... while your KH changes by 8dKH... which is a bit puzzling... it it were due to lime, or coral in your system, I would expect that both your kh and GH would rise... in your case though, we are looking for a specific non-calcium and non-magnesium carbonate source...

Also, I've not measured GH in our local tap water, but I'm a bit surprised that its 6.5... which makes me wonder if your measurement of GH is correct... could your test kit be faulty? If it is, then it could be as earlier suggested... i.e. you have some coral chips or lime sources in your tank.

As for aquasafe, E15, and florena, I'm pretty sure they don't add to your KH... and no aging the water won't help either

GH kits are known to give inaccurate results, especially if they have been exposed to atmosphere for some time.

I am pretty sure there is no limestone and my gravel is approporiate.
What I would like to know is if I leaave the water overnight, does chlorine disappear?
Is overnight water suitable for adding into tanks ie is it copper and chlorine safe?

To be sure, when you leave a pail of water overnite, put an airstone to bubble it the whole nite. and no doesn't make it copper safe.

unless your tap water has chloramine then it takes 1 week of constant aeration to disperse it

Something has to contribute to the KH rise. Likely to be carbonates from somewhere.

Is it likely that my tetra aquasafe is contributing to the KH and PH rise?

is that true? meaning most water conditioners from sera, tetra etc will not change PH, KH, GH etc?

Hi robin, I suggest you go and buy an digital pH pen to test the pH again. If you are using PUB water, the pH cannot be 6.5 because the acidity of water will corrode the water pipes. Depending on where you stay, pH of water can range from 7.5 to 8.5.

Water conditioners should not change the pH of your water.

Robin, what pH & KH test kits are you using?

pH test pen are not that straight forward either. You have to calibrate it at the initial use and periodically.

Personally, pH test kit is sufficient for me.

I am using dennerle test kits that test GH, KH and PH together on 1 strip.
Don't know if it is good or accurate. What do you use? any recommendations for accurate kits?
