    Hi Guys,

Can anyone help suggest a foreground plant that would grow even in shaded areas. I got a lot of bolbitis and I was thinking of having foreground plants growing underneath the bolbitis to cover the bare area. Anyone has any suggestion on what plant would survive in the shade? I know tenellus can be used but I know in shaded areas tenellus can grow up to 1 feet in length and I won;t really want this. Please advise. (Cryptocoryne parva)??

Try Lilaeopsis brasiliensis. Mine grows in the shade, low light, non-CO2. But it grows very slowly.

You could try Marsilea Hirsuta, grows well in low light, w/o CO2 and ferts.

    Quoted from Tropica:
Marsilea hirsutatolerates a wide spectrum of light and CO2 conditions and it grows well in soft as well as hard water in a wide pH interval. Without CO2 and at low light, the growth of Marsilea hirsutaalmost ceases, whereas it really thrives at moderate CO2 fertilization at a pH around 7. Marsilea hirsutagrows best between 20-26 degrees C and longer periods with higher temperature will often damage the plant
So this may not be a good choice.

Thanks for the info, however it grows really well in my low tech tank with less than 1.5 WPG light, no CO2, no fert dosing, 50% EC weekly. Below is a pic taken sometime back in March or April 09 before i tore down the tank two weeks back.

I have Lilaeopsis Brasiliensis in my planted comm tank. So far it has been avoiding all the shaded areas(covered by taller plants) and growing well in light.

can try hairgrass (Eleocharis parvula). Any light condition but easily floats when disturbed.
