Aug 31, 2009 was the Independence day of Malaysia. I went to hike to the summit of a mountain at the border of Sarawak & Kalimantan (Malaysian-Indonesian Borneo) to look for wild pitcher plants & orchids.

    A mountain at the border:

There are a lot of ladders to climb before reaching the summit....

The beautiful tropical jungle.....the humidity is high & temperature is a bit lower than lowland.

The trail is easy to walk....but beware of leeches!

    The misty jungle

About 3,600 feet, we found Nepenthes tentaculata. The pitcher is much larger & longer than the same species that I found in the mountains near my home.

    green one.

This species of pitcher plant is common in the mountains of Borneo.

The habitat is disturbed by Human activity (chopped down the small trees for unknown reason)....but they can survive well in open space, under direct sunlight.

At 4,000 feet, we were shocked to see Nepenthes fusca on the ground!!! This species is usually growing on the tree with orchids.

    What a beautiful pitcher!
