i wonder how does the discus swim about..
vdo ?
chio man peaceful tank
I used to have a 5x2x2 plant tank but it got infected with lots of algae after some time. Just I was going to renovate my house, I gave the tank, plants, sand, fish, shrimps, rocks, drift wood, etc... away.
I will be completing my house in end Oct/ early Nov and I hope to re-start this hobby. Thinking of whether it is good to get a 2.5ft dept tank instead of 2ft depth.
Hope to try my luck on a 5ft or 6ft plant tank again.
ywl,you have a beautiful tank. I like the redness of the Tiger Lily. The Amazon sword plant has really blossomed since your initial set up. The beauty of your planted tank really enhances the colours of your discus fish.
Excellent job.
How often and by how much is the water change? How about fertiliser dosing?
leechaorui, I have a L6ftxW2xD2.5 discus planted tank with 4ft sump tank.
If you are interested, I can sms you a picture of my tank.
I changed about half tank of water each week and change the overhead filter wool. Dose about 1 cap of Vista fertilizer each week and 1 cap of seachem iron . Now as my dicus grow bigger , algea is difficult to control . I cannot understand all my Java fern are not growing anymore . I guess its the hair algea on them and as the yamato shrimp clean them up , it cause very bad pitting.
defintely looks like a very maintainable tank, may I know what is the grass-like plant in the centre in your first post?
Nice and natural setup, like the greenery in the recent pic, thanks for sharing !
My long battle with Malsyian trumpet snails finally came to an end with victory
Number of killer snails : 4 VS about 700-800 malayan trumpet snails. Now I have about 20 baby killer snails hungry and searching through a bed of empty shells .
Any one who needs some snail can pm me . Size doesn't matter , adults and baby snails kill equally effective and fast . Baby kileer snails usually work in team of 2 to 3 . I have a pic showing a baby snail cleaning out a mid size trumpet snail.

i always love discuss in a planted tanks.. beautiful tank..
Some rescape done with a pc of drift wood 3 feet tall.
Modified my HOPAR to use M reflectors . Results were good .Now I only use 2X54W T8 HO for a 2.5 feet depth .
Added a Eheim 2075 running only 16W and removed my internal filter . I hope to see my electrical bills going down next month .
Thanks bro. I have just renovated my house and it took longer than expected to complete. Supposed to complete by last year Oct but I only managed to move in recently.
Thinking of re-starting a plant tank that has a depth of 2.5ft. I am only thinking of keeping cardinal tetra, lamp eyes and rummynose tetra. All small fish type and probably adding some malayan shrimps to help me remove algae. I think bioload will be quite low.
Anybody has any lobang to get a 2nd hand tank with all the equipment and setup? Will need help to do the set up. I gave away my previous setup that has all the fertilizers, lapis sand, CO2 tank setup, lighting, cannister, filter, drift wood, fish, shrimps, plants, etc..
I am thinking whether it is easier on the maintainence if I set up a rocky cum drift wood scape rather than a plant scape. At most, plant a few plants. Wonder if this will look nice.
