OK, sorry but no offence meant for Leslie Cheong's fans out there. But this afternoon I came home to find one of my 3-inch long SAE in front of my TV console - about a m away from my tank - rigor mortis has long set in, some scales were found nearby. The poor chap must have jumped out, landed HARD 1.5m on the grond and thereafter struggled like mad to stay alive. [] I feel so sorry, really like the 4 SAEs in my tank. The one that died is smallest of the 4.

Quesion is: has this happen to anyone's SAE before? I know SAEs are an active bunch - would they usually jump?

It must have overheard me. The day before the collection, it jumped to its death. []

My SAEs always pull this kind of stunt, especially since my tanks are not covered... so much so that everytime I come home, will alway look at the floor first for dried SAEs.

One of my SAEs did it before... most likely while trying to escape the arowana.

speaking of fish jumping out of the tank - I had this female betta which was very interested in the male in the next tank, even blew her own nest and laid her eyes in there [:0]

So one day, it must have jumped out of the tank onto the floor. I found it about an hour later, still alive! must the labyrinth organ sustaining its life - otherwise, its eyes were clouded over and body almost hard and dried. I poured away most of the water so it can still breathe air i it needs and placed it back into its tank. It recovered just slightly - able to move its body slightly. It did struggled for a few hours against death, but the latter won the battle. []

Really detest it when fish jumps - just makes me feel guilty for not being there when it happens [] sheez!

It feels even worse when you have long-life ones like arowanas, large cichlids, etc. Really sim-tiah (heart-pain) when they die, in whatever way.

I have had 5 SAEs. 3 of them jumped. 2 of them accidently gassed by me using CO2.

My conclusion: SAE is fast swimmer. My tank is small. So when they make a dash and do a "cornering" next to wall, there is a chance that the SAE fly out of the tank.

On a side note, personally I am not a fan of Leslie Cheong. But it hurt me very much when I hear of someone committing suicide. I hope that his death is not taken frivolously. I hope that we can exercise some respect/compassion for someone who has died.

Mine also did the same and is now probably in a small peaceful pond of buddies in heaven. It happened on the same black day and just after the news report, believe it or not![]
