In your experience, how do you bring down the carbonate & general hardness in order to have soft acidic water? Thanks

To lower KH, add boiled water.
To lower GH, add distilled or RO water.

If you are staying in Singapore, the tap water shd be quite soft. See http://www.pub.gov.sg/ws_potable_water.htm.

Next, must determine what's causing your water to have high kH and gH. If it is corals, then remove them.

There are several other ways to make water acidic:
- use of peat moss
- adding CO2 (assuming you are keeping planted tank)
