mine was quite slow at first, and then suddenly "reach puberty" by throwing up 2 leaves every other week about 2ft long each.

why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

For mine, some of the old leaves start to melt and new shoots only start to grow after 2-3 weeks. There after grow rate is constant but slow.
Will large water changes cause melting? I like to change 50% weekly, due to the brown driftwood stain...
Live and let live, stop using life feeds.
Crypts are known to melt with sudden changes of conditions e.g. temp, light etc. It may be the cause but quite unlikely the large water change would melt your C.balansae.
cheeboonyong,
Ask Timebomb, his 4.5 ft tank is 75% covered with crypts, hardly people has a tank like this. I was told by him that they were slow in the beginning but spread quickly (still very slow) when they established. I am still an impatient guy and like more vibrant colours, so fast growers will stay with me for sometime.

Don't ask me, I don't have a clue []
What I know though, Crypts do better in established tanks.
