IMHO i think moss wall would dilute the focus away from your wood placement because moss and moss got no contrast. Perhaps narrow leave java ferns is a better choice.

    Hi,
How are your hairgrass growing? as I am growing them in a low-tech tank too!

    Thanks!

Re: My new Low tech tank

i grew tired of waiting for my HG to grow. same, not growing nor dying. in the end i threw them out and replaced with tenellus. now my foreground is a jungle and i kinda regret using tenellus!

i think the HG is making a transition from emerged to submerged hence the long period of inactivity. maybe if we can start out with submerged HG then they will grow faster?

    Oink,

I like your tank very much as I was reading this thread since I started registering end of October. But I do not have the talent to keep a planted tank with shrimps. I even have problem keeping wood shrimps in planted tank as I tried before. But I still enjoy that picture you took. Very clear, the shrimps just seem to enjoy themselves there.

Re: My new Low tech tank

    Hi Blue Whale,

It was my first time setting up a shrimp + planted tank. I gathered alot of information an tips through this forum and set my tank to the bare minimal.

Hairgrass was actually on the greedier side of me as I know without CO2 and and good lighting they will be slow. Just trying my luck!

However I'm have very strong thoughts of wanting to remove the hairgrass. My 2 otto is causing havoc and I see uprooted hair grass once a few day!! Argh....

Will post pictures of my tank again soon!

Re: My new Low tech tank

You have the option of removing the Oto instead of the hairgrass. Give time for the hairgrass to start rooting more and then you can add in the Oto. It's always better to give the plants a headstart before adding in the fish, so that they'll root deeper and become less prone to being uprooted by the fishes.

Re: My new Low tech tank

Oto are poor poor thing. I can't imagine them create havoc actually. I do like to think of them as very hardworking cleaners.

I do see myself using soil instead of aqua pellet likened stuffs for my future tank...ha ha..another friend of mine just joined this forum, we just armed ourselves with glue guns for some modifications would be.

I gather my next tank might have some tuition fee to pay since we are not using silicon gel for strengthening portions. I'd be looking around for the tank...although i have the quote from Biotope already. I am a very patient customer, who will do research before I react, I don't succumb to the urge to die die get the tank fast at the moment.

Re: My new Low tech tank

Oink, I just noticed the tetra tank.

    1. I don't think these two types of tetras can mix. The color of the cardinal is almost gone, like being scared to death.
    2. Tetra tank I try not to put moss, ^_^ they could get lost inside and get stuck.

Hmm...I think oink can do more observation see the cardinals lost colors because he go disturb them with his camera or is it due to the other tetra breed. Cardinals are very timid. Even if you switch off lights, it also can get disturbed. Once disturbed, it will swim off in lightning fast speed but its red color would seem almost gone.
