    Hi cbong,

Eheim 2231 is good enough for your 2ft. It is a good and quiet filter, but the handle joint is prone to breakage. You will have to be very careful when lifting the handle up to seal the filter.

Seem like a lot of ppl who have used the 223X series find the handle fragile. Personally, I've used two 2231s for almost 2 years without problems. Main thing is, don't force the handle. If you can't lift the handle, wet the red rubber ring around the power head then try again. If it won't open, usually working the handle back and forth gently a few times will work.

Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:

A woman: without her, man is nothing.

I am using a 2231 for my 2 ft marine tank. The output is not too strong, which is a little insufficient for a marine tank but is perfect for planted tank, since we don't want to stir things up too much. So far having no problems at all with the handle after using it for 4 mths (touch bogwood).

Avoid cheap external cannister filters cos the materials are of poor quality and things don't fit and nicely or smoothly as German/Italian/French products IMO...
