Art, this is out of point, but your signature brought up an interesting point:

you never know if any cichlids in your tanks are actually hybrids...even though they are sold as true!
i dont dare to say my jaguar or midas will be 100% true along the lines..but they are good enough
this is more so for many african species, with cases of hyperdominance and other unnatural causes.

i think perhaps should be "cichlids close enough to original strain rock!"

i like all fish, and all cichlids too. some i like are hybrids, but largely depends on how they are marketed and percieved generally!

    Art,

Off-topic. Your avatar is one of my Brichardis... []
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

    Yep shell dwellers.

Lsz - something to think about eh
Actually you are right about arficans. They are found to have more cases of cross breeding in the wild as compared to new world cichlids. In fact in Lake Victoria , the effect of the Nile Perch has led to many surviving species to hybirdize in order to keep their strains alive. You could say its one of nature's way of evolution to a species alive , really interesting.

But its true what you mentioned , though "cichlids close enough to original strain rock!" too long , will stick to "true cichlids rock" haha []

Vinz , hehe , tot they were mine .
Now have a 2ft tank freed up , got 3 options:
Leave it for breeding ( i think got a pair of blue Haps ..yippee )
    Start a KIS planted tank
Or go for a colony of shellies in which a 2ft is more than enuff and can observe their interesting behaviourial patterns.

Yeah , i think i saw 2 specimens at H20 about 2-3 months back but even then they werent very healthy and I dont take chances with unhealthy fish even if i really want them
