silver dollars will eat anything...
When i placed my new silver dollars into the quarantine tank i thought my 2 baby guppies were goners. The SDs began eating almost immediately but they've left the guppies alone..
anyone has similar experiences with SDs or other fishes? I've been going by the rule "if it can fit in its mouth it'll be eaten"
silver dollars will eat anything...
I used to keep Silver Dollars and they'd leave smaller fishes alone. I guess it's down to the individual fish. They are supposedly almost fully vegetarian, but will take live worms and insects. Probably opportunistic omnivores, with a tendency for eating plants more. Mine had a fun time chowing on my sword plants... drove me mad for awhile.. until I switched to plastic plants.
Are your Silver Dollars still juveniles? Because as they grow bigger, those baby guppies might look more and more enticing.
Good thing you don't have a Pacu instead, because those guys are tankbusters.
Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
mine are still leaving the babies alone, even though they attack pellets in an instant. Yeah. They wiped out my frogbits. They're around 2-3 inches, hope they don't grow too fast
I've fished out a pacu from our waterways before
learnt something! interesting!
an update.
the silver dollars are much bigger now, around 3-3.5" and still leave small fishes alone.
they strip the vegetables i put in bare quite quickly, even after a pellet meal
