isn't pure base fert good? It contain micronutrients and no nitrate and phosphate which will cause algae boom.

Nitrate and phosphate themselves do not cause algae bloom. In fact a number of us here is dosing nitrate and phosphate to prevent algae bloom.

Errr, you might as well get Dennerle Duponit-Mix... it's Duponit premixed with gravel. Note: either way, you still need 1 inch of pure gravel on top of the base fert.

Thanks Modyas. But I don't think I can plant the arowana. He won't even let me touch him, how to plant him...

You didn't get my reply to your PM about a.compost? It's not fantastic, but I don't get major problems either. It'll be a good idea to mix in some substrate boosters like Root Monster loose form. Mixing in some laterite balls (ISTA brand) will give it a good dose of Fe too.
