As the title suggests, I would like to know how most of you intoduce your fishes into new aquarium. I have not been sure how to do it properly without stressing the fish even more.

Usually im afraid the LFS water got disease or something ad remove most of it then slowly pour aquarium water in. (this stresses the fish)

Is quarantine required for most fishes?
    Cheers,

    Hi jiajuen,
    We understand your worries.
Heart pain when see your favourite just died away.
    For me
I usually use the float method.
Wash the packing bag of the fish and float it on the water for at least 30 mins.
Keep away from the aquarium light if possible.
Next open the bag, scooped aboout 1.5 tau huay tub of your aquarium water and add slowly into the bag.
Do not add in 1 shot. Span it over at least 2 times for another 30 minutes.
    ie. 15 mins once.
Once the fish go into the tank, do not feed it till the next day.
This is because they fall sick easily when they eat under stress condition.
    Especially live feeds.
If not, try the drip method.
    Just do a search.

    Just sharing my experience.
I tried as much as possible not letting the
water from the LFS to go into my aquarium
as it may contain harmful substances.
I will net the new fishes into the tank after
putting the bag in the water for about 20-30 minutes.
And I will feed the current "residents" in the tank
first, so that they will not be so curious about the
    new residents.
I don't do any quarantine of the new fishes, but I will
make sure I choose those healthy-looking and lively
fish in the LFS if possible.

I do let the water go into the tank but out the next day.
I usually tried to add fish the day before my WC day.

Quarantine usually when we buy wild fishes and exotic ones.
Usually for a week to 2 weeks, including deworming and other medication.

Re: How do you introduce fish into tank?

    My usual method:

    1) Pour fish out of bag along with water into a smaller container
    2) Drain as much of the water that came with the fish, but just enough to let it swim around.
    3) Make sure to remove as much of the fish poop and any particles that came with the LFS water.
    4) Float the plastic container in the tank, at the same time using a dropper/turkey baster to suck up the tank water and dripping it slowly into the container
    5) Once the fish starts to move around slowly, I release it gently into the tank

I tend to do this when the lights are off and the other fish are supposedly at "sleep". Gives the newbies time to acclimatise to their new surroundings, and prevents the oldies from trying to establish dominance over them.

It is important to see your new fishes feed as soon as possible. If they show signs of distress, then something is seriously wrong.

Re: How do you introduce fish into tank?

    Share my method.

    1) Open the bag immediately when reach home
    2) Float bag in tank for 30 mins
    3) Add equal amount of tank water into bag (add one shot)
    4) Wait 30 mins
    5) Then depending on fish type / LFS, I either
    a) empty bag into net placed over a pail, then put net into tank
    b) tilt bag over so that fishes can swim into tank on their own

Re: How do you introduce fish into tank?

erm same here. did the same thing as guys mention above. as for last part i dont pour the water from the bag into the tank.
    cos:
    - may contain lots of fish load in the small bag. (just dont wanna add more bio-load into my tank)
    - may not know any disease come along in the bag (water).
lastly try release the fish at night cos other fish in your current tank maybe sleeping. so your new fish will not get stress in new environment & wont get bully by other fish due to territory.

Re: How do you introduce fish into tank?

I only buy small fishes and shrimps so this may not be applicable to most.

I'll put bag into a foam box filled with fresh tank water (same temp) use drip method at about 5-6 drops per minute till its 50:50 LFS:Tank water.
Then pour away 75% and use slow drip (2-3 drops per minute) overnight/24hrs until the bag almost overflows.

Net into another container with fresh tank water to rinse off any dirt before transferring to tank.

Re: How do you introduce fish into tank?

    I normally do this:
    1) Pour fish and water into container and remove as much LFS water as possible.
    2) Using drip method slowly(around 30 mins) let the water fill to about 75% tank water and 25% LFS water.
    3) Net out fish into tank.
I only pour them in if I really trust the LFS.
If the fish is jumpy remember to cover during acclimatisation.
