    Hi Guys,

Last Saturday, I suddenly started seeing my fishes developing white spots which I promptly started protozin treatment. As recommended on the bottle I did Saturday, Sunday and Monday, but I was looking at the fishes and I don't think there's any improvement. As the instruction says 1,2,3 and then 6th day, so should I stop and wait for the 6th day even though I don't see improvement? Cause I have seen somewhere on the net where people have used protozin for 6 days straight.

I have already had one casualty, so would really hate to lose another. Please help anyone.

up the temp to 30-32 degree .... add more air pump to circulate more oxygen in the water.

Ok thank you so much. However, one question I have is, once the fishes are ok, do I then lower the temp back> Cause now I have a chiller running for it to be at 25 as mine is a planted tank. Thanks!

you need to maintain the temp at 30 degree for at least 2 weeks. Your plant able to survive this long period?

2 weeks? I thought the treatment should last like at most 6 days?

I am referring to the holding of temp at 30 degree to be effective against white spots. Protozin is 6 days per cycle. For me, I will just stop the protozin after one cycle and let the temp to hold for another 2 weeks to effectively kill off the Ick.

Ah ok. Thank you. But I think once the cycle is over, I really have to slowly bring the temp back down as I have mosses and hairgrass and they don't do well in higher temp.

The white spot parasite has a short life cycle at higher temperatures. If you use the high temp method, you need to combine it with dosing appropriate medication. I use malachite green, but it is lethal to several fish species. That kills the free swimming stage, but not the ones under the fish skin, or the cysts in your gravel and plants, if any. That is why some people medicate for over a week.
