Just like to share this.
Apart from feeding my shrimps commercial food, I have been 'growing' algae on wood / stones to feed them.
They seems to like this algae treat a lot, response is much better than zucchini.
I hope this helps to compliment their diet since algae is their main food source in the wild.
And best of all, it is free!
Preparation is simple - just dump a piece of wood / stone into a container filled with water and leave it in the sun. Algae will start growing after a few days. I use my aquarium water just to be safe. Just do check that it does not turn out to become a mosquito breeding ground.
I usually leave the wood / stone in the tank for 2 to 3 hours. you can reuse them after that.

but most of all..i got to read my books!!
i don't need to grow...
i dismantle and leave the pipes/tubes from my small hang on filters (there are slimy algae inside) for the shrimps to eat & clean. after a couple of hours, the pipes are all clean and the shrimps are happy .
