The beginning of raining season in Sarawak

November 2009. It was a bad idea to look for fish and water plants during the rainy season as water level of most of the rivers are extremely high.

This is the habitat of Crypt. bullosa at Sarekei. The water level is taller than 3 meters:









Almost all the rivers in Sarawak are like this....









Since we failed to find anything in the river, we went to look for orchids & pitcher plants on the land:

In the afternoon, we found a slow flowing river. We took our net and went down to search for fish....

Gotcha! First time caught Betta taeniata in the location far north from the spot where I found it. This location is almost near the Rajang basin.

I'm so happy to find this fighting fish again.

And juvenile of Betta. Probably its Betta akarensis.

We stayed one night at Sarekei town.





The following day, we returned back to Kuching. On the way back, we went to search for potential place for fish & Crypt.

And caught a Betta akarensis.

We caught a few species of algae-eating shrimp (Caridina sp.) near Seri Aman....but unfortunately, not every shrimp survived on the way home.

Very nice video of the submersed cryptocorynes, it really adds a different dimension of understanding as compared to just looking at the photographs. I will take more videos too when I go for my field trip in the future. Thanks for sharing.
