will fire eel eat dried shrimps?

Hi!

Does anyone knows if fire eel eats dried shrimps? This is because i usually feed mine with feeder shrimps but its very troublesome but i'm not too sure if they do eat dried shrimps. I'm afraid i buy then they don't eat and it will all be wasted.

Really appreciate your suggestions!

You can try by putting the dried shrimp near them and moving it about in the water via a swirling action, or with a pair of tweezers. If they notice movement, since you say they are used to feeder shrimps, then perhaps they will go for the dried shrimps. You can try with a small can I guess. At least if they don't eat them, you won't have to waste a larger can.

Well, I've tried to feed the dried shrimps to my eels and it didn't work! (at least for mine) so yeah >.< i guess i'll leave the shrimps for my turtle then

Well sorry to hear it didn't work out. As long as you can find a source of feeder shrimps I guess you should be fine. They're always in plentiful supply year round.

I think that starving your eel a little might help. I had exactly the same problem as you do with a fire eel I had years ago. It only ate feeder shrimp, and would not eat anything else, not even any type of feeder fish. I never really had the heart to starve it enough to see if I could get it to eat live fish or other foods. You could try though.

unfortunately Enda, ive tried that - that time my fire eel starved himself for 2 whole weeks just becuase i fed an incorrect food (blood worms/ tubifex) and he only started eating when i finally found the correct food - shrimps. haha
