Re: Best temperature to keep the L183 ?

    New fish to the collection?

I have kept them in 24 to 26C with no problem.
I have also kept them in another setup at 28 to 30C with no issues too.
However, if you can accept my own visual inspections as a valid indicator, they do better at the former temperature range IMHO.
Bear in mind I have had them breeding in both temparature ranges.
They seem to "look" more comfortable in the cooler range.
Maybe that's why people love to keep them in coller planted setups?

Thank you for your reply my friend.
Good for energy saving. I will keep them in low temp.

Yes, I pick up some L183, L114 and L56(rubber pleco) not sure if there is a Xanto mix in. LOL.

L183 is a pleco from the Rio Negro, a warm, black water river. They do best if kept at 28 to 30*C, pH >6.5 and TDS >50 ppm. Need very clean water Nitrates >15 ppm.

Rubber Pleco Chaetostoma water chemistry is not very critical but they do not thrive in warm water. About >24*C is best.

Thank you for all the suggestion, My L183 seem to do well at 77deg F. as well. It's help the electricity bill as well.

as for the Rubber pleco. I meant the L56 and the Xanto (gold version).
