for 150cm, you should be using at least 10mm glass best if it is 12mm.
I just happen to have a lot of extra huge 5mm thick glass panels sitting in my shed. I was thinking maybe I could make an aquarium out of it. I realize it cant be very tall so I figured I could do a very long, very shallow tank? Like 5 ft (150cm) long, 1-2 ft(30-60cm) wide, about 1ft(30cm) tall. Oh, and like 3-4 braces. Would it work? Is it too risky?

your safety factor should be at least 3 to 4 in my opinion. that is to account for the occassional knocks and extra weight and pressure due to other causes besides the water load.
