Why not get a 1 ft cube tank? Much bigger than a standard 1 ft rectangular.

Here's the breakdown of what you will need:

    1) Tank 30cm X 30cm X 40cm (Height) - $30
    2) 2 X 4kg Gex Soil ( 1 for crs, 1 for aquatic plants) - $30
    3) 1 X 36cm or 30cm Aquazonic T5 - $30
    4) 1 X Hang Over Filter - $15
    5) 1 X decorative drift wood - $12
    6) Can get some moss, anubias, ferns @ $30
    7) Mosura old sea mud powder - $8
    6) Mosura mineral plus - $8
    7) CRS speciality food - $8
    1 X Fan - $25

Try to buy the above at one go to get better discount.

After cycling, can add a cherry shrimp to test water for a couple of days.
    Then, get

    9) 1 X 20 Grade A CRS - $50

Try not to keep more than 25 adult shrimps for that tank size.

If its within your budget, go with the 2211 then.

Those that looks like PC fans. A small one will do. Goto to the shop and just ask, they will know what to recommend.

Correction to the sand, you need 4 kg sand instead of 8 kg for a 1 ft cube.

Don't worry bros. Keeping shrimp is not difficult lah. I also started with 1 foot due to space contraint. I started with hardy shrimps like snowball, cherries and sakura before going into low grade CRS. My temperature with tornado fans can keep the temp between 25 to 27 depending on which time of the days and is considered good enough for newbie. You need to show people how your tank looks like. Remember to keep your tank away from sun or window and stop touching the water since humans have warm body. Best is some dark corner to keep the temp constant if you are using fans.

I have gone thru the process and I thought it might help you to consider certain things I have done. However, if you plan to buy more expensive shrimps with better grade, than you need to invest more because mine is just a small economy tank.

PC fans 80mm or thereabout shouldn't be noisy at all, unless you're incredibly sensitive to noise.

I would advise an going with an Eheim Classic 2213 instead of the 2211, because if you upgrade your tank in the future or decide to run a chiller, the 2211 will not be enough flow.

But if you're dead set on a 300 L/hr flow rate filter, can consider the Eden 501 also.

Re: Setting up a 1ft tank for CRS

if you really want to keep crs i would advise buying a 2nd hand chiller if not you can only keep low grades . If you get eheim classic , you still have to buy the media so cant cost up to around 3 blue notes. So might as well buy a eheim pro 2222 which already includes media and you dont have to self prime to save all the trouble.

Re: Setting up a 1ft tank for CRS

if you tank is 30cm by 30 cm by 40 cm think external filter flowrate will overkill, can just use internal filter. you can go to eheim website and take a look at all the models over there. caculate how much gallon of water your tank can use by using the aquarium caculator then check out the aqauarium size up to in the eheim website to choose your filter. For your tank size it can hold 36l of water so you can just get a eheim aquaball 2206 or 2208.

Re: Setting up a 1ft tank for CRS

If you are running an internal or Hang On Filter, you will need an additional pump later on when you want to add a chiller, and the flow rate will bring you back to square one.

The filter won't affect the CRS as long as it works well, but it will limit the number of CRS you can stock in your tank. External canisters will increase the water volume of your system and provide better filtration, as well as enable you to connect a chiller into your loop without an additional pump. But you will need a canister with 500 L/hr or more to be on the safe side.

Stick with an external canister filter. For second hand chillers, I recommend a Hailea HC-100A or HC-150A, they are reasonably priced 2nd hand ($100 - $150) and are the most reliable in this price range.

For your tank and equipment that you're buying new, try Nature Aquarium in Balestier, or C328 ( Clementi Ave 2, Block 328 )

    To: Mr Mafia00

Choice Powder, if I am not wrong, is some type of Ferts or Substrate which similar as Old Sea Mud.

Yes, HC is a kind of Plants, the full name I not sure. If full laid will be very beautiful, unforunately, I had no succeed with the plant. It can be easily find in Aquarium Shop.

My 1.5ft CRS tank is still Cycling. Major Parameter are Ok, except NO3 (Nitrates) is still on high side. Need to wait for another 1 to 2 weeks.

    Good Luck.

    Rgds.

    To: Mr Mafia00

HC - not sure why? there must be something which I done wrong or miss out. You should be able to find pics in this forum. Alot of Seniors had successfully planted/grown HC.

CRS - I'm still new and learning. I'm not in position to give you any advise for keeping CRS.
Seniors in this forum will be the good/right persons to guide you on the way.

I can only advise you to read more in this Forum.

I've got quite a few items for sale that would be good for the tank - e.g. moss, 1 ft cube tank, filter, filter media etc. Check out http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ad.php?t=64242 & http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ad.php?t=64243

Can't seem to PM you, not sure why.
