    Hi there.

I have a 100L tank that has been cycled for 1 month. Already tested the tank and all the readings are in order. I started to introduce shrimps last week. And over the weekend, I put in one batch of SS grade crs. I notice that they are not very active and keep hidding. And yesterday after introducing them for 24hrs, I saw one BDS roaming around the substrate and it suddenly jumped around. Seemed like something is attacking the shrimp. Then it just lay on the side and slowly passed away. Does anyone know what could have happen? I have exprience this in my old tank as well when just started.

I quickly transfer the high grade ones to my mature tank. Please share?

    What substrate are you using?

What is your tank temperature at and is it stable?

What are your GH/KH and pH levels at?

Also is there enough oxygenation in the water?

Did you slowly acclimatize your shrimp to the new tank?

Could there possibly be copper in the tank water?

    PH 6.4 - 6.6 no CO2
    Substrate ADA II
    GH 8 KH 0
    temp set at 24

The remaining 5 Hinos are doing ok. Is it a norm to test for copper or even iron in a CRS tank? Could it be parasites? All my tanks uses aged tap water and the other 2ft has SSS with no issue. Rain bar is above water level so has enough aeration. Afterall only 5 shrimps so I don't think it is lack of oxygen.

I think it is some kind of parasites as it seems that something is attacking the shrimp. That was a nice bds that I loss.

I've actually never tested a tank for heavy metals before, don't think I've heard of anyone doing it either.

Can maybe try Poly-Filter, many LFS carry it, I know Polyart does.

I've used Poly-Filter before in my tanks, but marine only, never felt the need to run it in freshwater tanks.

    Hi fastlane,
I guess this was an planaria attack. Had the same with one tiger shrimp which died later on. The planaria creep in the body of the shrimp and the shrimp tries to get them off by jumping.

I do not believed it was attacked. The symptoms sound more like shock to me.

    Hi Hmpkbetta-san,

You know of any fauna that will eat the hydra, but yet not detrimental to the shrimps? My mini puffers don't seem to do it, even though they do a good job of cleaning out the lymphets. I believe I may have hydras as well but do not wish to use chemicals to rid it. Thanks.

i not sure of any fauna that eat hydra but,i use dog de-worm pill, got sell in the pet shop. i did not sleep for one day keep watching if the shrimp is ok. even the shrimplet are ok. this is the best method to kill hydra only, i test it myself. after the hydra die i suck them out. just not to over feed the shrimp.

Re: Problem with new CRS tank

    Hi Hmpkbetta-san,

Thanks for the offer and info, think have no choice but to try the Flubendazole treatment. Last night saw another one of my crs "probably" got stung by a hydra. Initially not sure but closer scrutiny found the hydra where the crs jumped away from.

Found quite a few sites with full write-ups of their treatment and follow-ups actions. By far the most detailed write-up indicated 0.1 gram for 10 gallons for 48hrs. Another article call for 0.5gm for 3 days. However they did not specify what grade crs they were treating though. I will have to take the lowest dose route though since the sensitivities between the highest and lowest grades crs differ widely.

By the way, the avatar is a foto of 1 of my 3 months old mutants.

Re: Problem with new CRS tank

    Hi Hmpkbetta-san,

My colleague went to the pet store near koi garden at Suntec City today after a meeting there and he told me there's only 1 dog de-worm medicine containing flubendazole but he didn't buy it for me because of the ridiculous pricing (way over $50 a small pack) to buy a pack when I probably only need less than one tablet.

Any chance you can let me know what price is a fair price? Or maybe you can let me know the brand to look for and the dosage you applied? Thanks.
