malayan shrimps eating my plants... why?

left 100 of them in a heavily planted 2ft tank with 5 ottos. due to work reasons i had no time to bother my tanks for some time and today i noticed that my tank is almost botak due to the malayan shrimps feeding on my plants! i've never heard of malayan eating plants! is this the first case?

it may have happened due to the primary source of food, which is algae is all gone.......without algae or food scrapes or anything they can scavange on, it will turn to your plants. Algae wafers will help alot
