Not enough lights.
Is that glosso on the foreground as well? If it is, then I think it confirms my suspicions.

I dunno 3x 36W tto much? b'cos everyone said my lighting is not enough, so bought another light to power it up!
But seem like not enough too, my Red Tiger Lotus and Glosso are growing upward!!! so sad!
Note: I did change the lighting system from FL to PL-Eballast, maybe the reflector not position correctly or is contaminated!
3 x 36 W is a lot! Better check the ratings on your PL. But even for myself, I only have about 2.8W/gallon, and my lotus doesn't grow that tall. Your watt per gallon should be about 5W/gallon?
Then....too much power will grow higher??? not logic leh?
so not lighting problem right? one 36w PL is facing directly to the red tiger lotus and 2x36w PL are facing Glosso (b'cos Glosso needs more light),so what is the problem?? can't really figure out!!
This tank only 1 1/2 mth old, me consider as newbie lah!!! so is anyone can help??
This is normal. Once the plants is fit enough, the leafs will get bigger and more below, then the rest will move upwards for lights then as more leafs grow on top, flower may blooms. To control, juz cut lor. Left w a few leaves below, it wont grow upwards.
Wrong light? you bought what kind of PL? Should be Daylight...
Baby Steel!
agree with ivanilla, there's a link somewhere here which teaches you bout growing glosso. basically have to cut off the tall ones and replant them. try a search!----------------

yup, yr lotus will send out surface leaves then flower [] notice there r only a few, cut them off and they will be fine..
as for yr glosso, use yr tweezer and plunge them into the gravel.. repeat process till they grow laterally.. do not hestiate to stick them in, jus a leaf or two sticking out of the gravel is fine
Your tank is around 20 gallons. 2x36W is a little more then enough. But if you aren't getting algae and you don't mind the brightness, 3x36W is fine. However, you're tank will need lots of fert and CO2 to balance the light. Personally, I go back down to 2x36W.
The lotus is growing tall with huge leaves because your substrate is rich. If you want to keep it low, cut away the leaves that you think are too tall and the plant will grow new leaves to replace them. BUT, IME, always make sure there are at least 2 fully opened leaves left.
I would attribute low light to tall lotuses only if the leaves remain small, while the stalks stretch for the surface.
From the colour in the pictures, your light colours look right.

Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
Yeah mine grows tall too with a 2ft tank and 72W PL lights. What I do is keep cutting the big leaves that reach like 50% of the water height. Keep cutting till the plant is fedup with you [:] [:]
... always look at the bright side of life
