    or towards the reflector or maybe it doesn't matter?

    The dimple I'm talking about is the "bump" (on the bottom of the lamp) as seen in this photo.

    i think it may not matter.
    if you have concerns, you can start by putting the bump towards the reflector. then you'll have the 'perfect' surface on the outside.
