I believe what you have is an air-driven filter rather than a canister filter.

Edit: Hi after scrolling down your website I realised that it is a canister filter after all. Sorry for the mistake.

The air pump have to be very strong to create enough flow?

Not really a cheap $7 air pump can do the trick jus the flow would be slightly smaller. The air is mainly used for the extra lift needed for the water to get out through the outlet , the buoyancy of the air is the main "power" but a stronger air pump does make it more powerful. So far it has been moved from its 1 feet tank testing site to a 1.5 feet tank and is still doing great

You might want to change the housing of the canister after some time. Those Lock n Lock type of containers will give way after some time due to the built up pressure within the container.

The integrity of the lid seal or durability of the snap locks is not an issue since the filter is submersed and there is little pressure to speak of even after extended use.

Filtration efficiency can be improved if multiple holes/slots are drilled into the intake tube and a coarse sponge slipped over it (like those Otto powerhead filters). As is, water intake is limited by the small ID (Internal Diameter) of the tube. Coarse sponge prefilter will prolong period between maintenance, provide some microscopic foods from the accumulated mulm at the outer layer and prevent fry from venturing into the intake.

Personally, I would have preferred to do away with the intake tube and have multiple holes on the entire lid surface and the out-tube all the way to the bottom (like most conventional air-lift filters). My habit is to clean the top filtration media while leaving the rest alone and not disturbing the beneficial bacterial colony.

Nonetheless, I think it was a good effort.

Ronnie, I think like me you mistook it for a submersed air lift filter. It is actually a cannister filter run by air pump.
