- There is only one category: Freshwater Planted Aquariums.
- Open type aquariums may be submitted, but only the underwater portion will be judged.
- There are no aquarium size restrictions.
Entry RequirementsRegistration and Submission Instructions
- All members of Aquatic Quotient are welcomed to enter the contest.
- No submission fee is required.
- We hope to see unreleased work entered for this contest.
- Each entrant is allowed to submit a maximum of 1 (one) entry for this contest.
- Every submitted entry will be automatically submitted for the ADA International Aquatic Plants Layout Contest (IAPLC) 2010 by ADA Singapore. Participants may opt-out from the automatic submission during registration (see details below).
- Entrants must submit a photo of the whole aquarium from the front. (The picture taken from an angle or one showing only part of the tank will also be judged unfavourably.)
- Photos which are deemed heavily edited using photo editing tools will be judged unfavourably.
- The use of non-aquatic plants will be judged unfavourably.
- Works submitted for previous ADA IAPLC, Aquatic Gardeners Association (AGA) International Aquascaping Contest, AQ-ADA Singapore Aquascaping Contest or other aqauscaping contests may be judged unfavourably.
Judging criteria
- To register for the contest, send a PM to AQ-ADAsg-Comp with the following details:
- Full Name
- NRIC
- AQ User Name
- Contact Number
- Address (for submission to ADA IAPLC 2010)
- Valid Email Address
- Title of Submission
- List of plants and fauna used
- Opt-out of auto-submission to ADA IAPLC 2010? (Yes/No. Yes means you wish to opt-out.)
- To submit aquarium photo for the contest, send the photo as an email attachment to AQ.ADAsg.Comp@gmail.com:
- Entrants may submit their photos any time before 15th April 2010, 11.59pm ( GMT +8 ).
- The subject of the email should be: Contest 2010 - <AQ User Name>.
- E.g.: Contest 2010 - Vinz
- The photo size should be at least 3.5MB and in JPEG format. We recommend that the longest side of the photo should be at least 2000 pixels long.
- Contest judges and their relatives, and members of Biotope Services Pte. Ltd. and their employees and relatives are not allowed to enter the competition.
- Entrants are strongly encouraged to register early. Aquarium photos may be submitted later.
Judges
- Artistic Impression points (100 points)
- Creativity (20 points)
- Overall completeness of the layout and its originality are evaluated. The use of non-aquatic plants becomes the subject of points deductions.
- Composition/Arrangement of plants (20 points)
- Is the composition of the layout well-developed?
- Are the aquatic plants appropriately positioned within the aquascape?
- Is there a balance within the layout in terms of the colours and shapes of aquatic plants?
- Balance between the fish and the layout design (20 points)
- Creator’s choice of fish for the layout is evaluated.
- Are the colours, size, swimming method and ecology of the fish suitable for the layout?
- Natural Atmosphere (20 points)
- Does the layout clearly tell you the creator’s idea of nature?
- How is the method and technique that the creator used, render a natural feel in the layout?
- Aquatic plants’ conditions and Time Progress essence of Layout (20 points)
- The condition of the aquatic plants in the layout is evaluated.
- The time progress of the layout based on the types of plants used and their conditions are evaluated.
- Is the layout maintainable over a long period of time?
Announcement of Results
- There are 3 judges from AQ and 2 judges from Biotope Services Pte. Ltd.
- The identities of the judges will only be revealed after the contest deadline.
- The results of the contest will be announced on Aquatic Quotient on 1st May 2010.
