Generally with DIY, getting a good diffuser, typically done with a powerhead works the best.
Regular brew changes will also steady out the levels.
You might be able to get away with one 2 liter biottle but two might work better for this size of tank. Consider a gas system. They are worth the $.

if you're using a 1.5l DIY bottle, it should last around one month if you got it right
i remember using 4 cups of sugar, 1 tablespoon yeast, 2 tablespoons baking soda and ahaha some liquid fertiliser, i dunno why
it took me 1.5 months and a little more before i had to replace the setup

    i'd use a reactor
i wouldn't touch a diffusor because i want to conserve every bit of co2 that is produced
the potential problem here is that the co2 buildup at night will be too much
i didn't experience anything like this, mainly because diy co2 doesn't produce a lot of gas in a short amount of time
just give it a try and see how it turns out

if you want to pipe the co2 into your filter, you have to connect it to the inlet pipe. the co2 can then be broken up by the impeller blades. however, it may shorten the life of you filter and may cause occasional airlock.
