You can probably use the ISTA mini skimmer and modify it to fit the Eden 501's intake pipe. I forgot the price but I've seen the item at C328. Perhaps other LFS might have it as well.

thank you for the replies! the skimmer will not affect the flowrate right?
eden is already on 300l/hr..
Advice from boss Felix
of course will affect, anything you plug in will effect the flow somewhat.
A normal skimmer will have a screw type at the bottom, that adjust the flow rate. One thing if commercial product cannot fit, you could try to diy one taking the design from the commercial product. Hope this helps for you. For PVC, you need to have screw threads which you can find it like a L-Joint. But to make one take fits, it will still take some skills to do it.
If you interested in DIY:
1. Look at conventional skimmer design. Come up with your design.
2. Look at what is available both at Bigger ones such as C328, Yishun Aqua Star Trading where pipes are available and Hardware stores such as Zender, HomeFix and guage what material you would like to use.
Before you embark on DIY, you have to do your costings using excel. If it exceed by a lot of $$, it might not be viable, then you turn your attention back to what is currently available on the market again.
thanks for the suggestion bro. i think im going to buy instead. got no space for diy-ing in my home here.. besides my mum will kill me if she sees the mess i create
Advice from boss Felix
Mum are supposed to clean up kid's mess. In my case, I have to clear up all the mum's mess. E.g. crash into my 3ft and cause water leak. If not, I don't think I have to downgrade to 2ft for the time being. -.-" Yeah...broke my eheim too. ouch!
can really say how many person it will reduce the flow, never try it with EDEN 501.
With eheim filter there is spec called head pressure. Head pressure is the distance between inlet, pump and outlet (or hose length). However, each 90 degree bend contribute to 30cm length. You flow will be effected if your total length exitding the limit.
hahaha
DZ,
I know the answer!
upgrade to a 2Ft. , gives you all the reason for 2213.
I am using the replica of EDEN501 (BOYU EF05) not fantastic but thinking of upgrading when i decom my 5 plan 2ft to a more decent 2ft. or should i just buy a 3ft and start viva

. but the skimmer still how lol. or should i get a hob filter and use it with eden?
Advice from boss Felix
DZ try manual removal abit, take tissue and soak up. that method.
If still have, try find out whats causing it. sometimes substrate may cause that (depends)
If not me like me, angry until just go NA buy. its not really ex for the normal one.
Juts that the ista one cost few more dollars. i might be buying the ista one for my gf's tank, if her tank has oil flim problem. (but i strongly think its my mom's cooking...)

No need lah...1.5ft, 2ft I also don't deploy skimmer liao. Use a mug/disposable cup to press against the water surface and "suck" the surface. Easy to do it, can do it during water change maintenance. ^^Y Cheap and easy.
