recently got a hailea HC-100A chiller (what I can afford) for my 290L tank + 80L sump. However I notice it take way too long to cool to 26deg, almost more than 4hr. (it stay at 26.1deg for more than 1hr)

any guru can advise, if I increase the pump rate will help? currently using 1200L/h, if I put a 3000L/h will help to reduce the cool time faster?

I also notice a strange thing that when the chiller is OFF, the temp indicator on the chiller slow a deg lower (e.g 25.9 or 25. aft a while. it is normal?

Your chiller is way under power. HC-100A is only 1/20HP and your tank is about 4ft tank. Nothing will help except get more powerful chiller

290L tank is too big. u need to go for Hailea 300A

previously i am using Hailea 150A for my 100L tank but with only 60L filled with water and already it takes 35min to cool from 26 deg to 25 deg.

i have justed change to Hailea 300A and with more water volume at 80L.
only 12mins to cool from 26deg to 25deg.

Next time you should ask around before you buy, at least you should ask the shop keeper. They should be able to give you advice which chiller to buy for your tank size.

Tell him your problem, he might offer you a chance to upgrade with a top-up. They allow me to upgraded my Hydor pump to Aquabee due to insufficient power previously (but I was testing using fresh water only). Aquamarine is definitely not the cheapest shop you can find in town. But their after sales services is pretty good.

Just tell them to change to a Hailea 300A for you. I dont know why the guy recommend you Hailea HC100A. Dont make sense as I totally agree with the rest. Hailea 100A? Cant even cool my 45cm 36l tank. I am using Hailea HC-130A for my 45cm. 290l tank using a Hailea 100A is no no. Too stress for the chiller and it takes a long long time. With this continous running, chiller might break down pretty fast.

Get at least a 1/4 HP chiller. Even if you choose a 1/2 HP chiller, it is ok..Will cool your tank faster.
    Regards
    William
