Same here... my whole tank is giving me problems. Brown algae, green algae on glass, cloudy water, plants shedding leaves, crypts melting... *sigh*

    Seriously re-considering chiller again.

heng... my crypts are still doing ok in my tank even though temp hovers around 28.5 (even at night). Perhaps it's because I've reduced the lighting to about 1 W/gallon. This was more to cut down the heat than anything else. Let's see how.

Some crypts are rotting..the cordata specimen but the wenditt, parva, neville, lucen, balanse, etc all okay. My Nuphar Japonica have several rotting leaves..they turned translucent n just rotted but strange only hit about 4 leaves. The lace plant is suffering too. Wonder if it is the weather or not?

On another note, 2 dead cardinal..probably due to old age since they have recruited to serve in my tank since 1999.

My tank is hitting over the 29 degrees according to my thermometer. I'm not in the house in the daytime, and only get home after 9pm, so the day temp could easily be 30 over. The crypts have been ratty but acceptable since the weather started warming up a few weeks/months ago, but with the weather in the last few days... the crypts have made gotten a lot worse.

Hi, mine is worse, as mine is located at the balcony. 31(at nite)-32.7(day) degree!!!

Moss melting liao and beard algae blooming. Shrimps also kana heat stroke.... It was fine before till the recent hot weather. I think by installing fan will only help a bit(mayb a degree lower). If install chiller, it will be running 24hrs continously w/o stopping due to the extreme heat and the electric bill will be soaring high(any idea how much?I tnk will be a lot rite like air con...).Got a 4 ft n 2 ft planted tank.

    No choice, any idea??? Sigh....

For a four feet tank, chiller will up your elec bill by about $30.

It doesn't really run 24hrs... it only chills when the temp hits the set upper limit, and stops when it reaches the lower limit. Will probably run a few hours a day.

to lower down thw temp of ur tank can try turning on ur lights onli at night or when u turn on ur air con....i onli turn on my lights at aroung 6.30 and off it at 3.30...so the temp rarely exceed 26...unless i`m not at home so the air con not on....but still at most 28....but u might not get to sleep lar....but will get used to it sooner or later...

If the ambient temp is ard 30. I think the chiller will hav to work harder.. imagine colling down from 30 to 26 degree. My friend got a 5 footer marine tank, he said his is running v often due to the hot weather. His preset temp is 25 degree.

My house's room temperature measuring 36C in the afternoon. However the crypts like C. cordata, C. pontederiifolia and C. griffithii are doing fine.

cryptocoryne species are the plants we commonly refer to as crypts

    see this

the plants in the foreground and the right background are all crypts, just different species

i noticed my crypts shedding their less healthy leaves
the balansae is especially badly hit
but the strange thing is, algae isn't doing as well
the one on my styrofoam wall in my 2 ft tank is starting to be stripped by my shrimp

    Nice balanse Yimin

Tanks are hovering around 29.5 to 31.0 and my cryptos are fine. Slight problem with the Nuphar though.
