Kits tend to be less accurate when they get older... You might want to sample 2X the tank water and divide the final result by half for a more accurate reading. Did you shake the kit well before use?
I've got 2 KH test kit bought sometime ago. First brand is AQUMEDI, the other is AP(Aquarium Pharmaceuticals). Did a test as instructed on my tank water together. Former shows 5KH, while latter shows 7KH. Such a difference in result, despite repeated test.[:0]
Wondering is KH kit the same like the other, that inacurrate to trust? Or either one a faulty kit?

Yes, I shake the kit vigorously well before using. Just tested again.
The first kit reading: 6KH (tested few times, same value).
2nd kit reading: 7KH (tested few times, same value)
First kit bought about 5-6 months ago. 2nd kit, bought about a month ago. Think I better stick to the 2nd AP test kit, since newer. Didn't know KH kit have shelf life too?
Guess result going to be confusing for many too, if we consider it's shelf life as a factor for accuracy.
That's why we aim for 30ppm of CO2 so as to account for errors in readings...+/- 5ppm.

welll....
i would imagine the accuracy will be better for the more well established brands
regardless, i don't find kh testing really that useful
in theory, you can calculate the exact co2 amount in the water if you know the kh
that's only for a system with only the bicarbonates acting as a buffer
that's not quite true for the planted aquaria, so i don't see how accurate the kH estimation of co2 can be
