shrimplets eaten up by otos?

do oto eat shrimlets? before otos was introudce into the tank, i am having 15-20 shrimlets, after i add in 2 otos the shrimlets reduced and none left
now... Do oto eat baby shrimlets?

Don't think so, your shrimplets may be in hiding or might have passed away due to other reasons. i never seen my otos purposely eat shrimplets. perhaps by accident when their grazing the moss? though the shrimplets would be more likely to jump away.

I doubt that the otos eat up the shrimplets.

I dont think Otos will eat shrimplets too.. as i have few otos in my tanks, and my fire red is breeding like rabbits.. dont seems like otos will predate on those shrimplets.. besides, their mouth structure are different.

Hi Xinanlove,

No, don't believe Otos will eat meat-based food, let alone live shrimplets.
More likely the shrimplets got "killed" by their "dashing" around when the room/tank lights are switched ON, especially if the room was dark+quiet and the Otos are in the open.

The Otos dashing around may stun even juvenile shrimps. Usually any injured shrimplets may be preyed upon by the adults shrimps.

Try observing if this is the cause.

Otos are shrimp safe. Did you wrap your filter inlet?

i think this is how the oto killed my shrimlets

when i first introduce the oto they dashing here and there maybe killed my shrimlets

if everything seems stable inside your tank, a once pregnent female will bellied again in a week

Agreed with most of the guys here, Otto do not predate live shrimplets, but think they dash around aggressively for pallet food and this might at time stress the shrimplets and kill them.

Hmmm.. Not really though.. My otos eats the mosura range of food. Some of it contains squid and mussel? Also they do take the occasional blood worms that i throw in as a treat.. Not really herbivore?
