Your plecos looks very comfortable inside. Just a question as i am a newbie in plecos, is it better with substrate such as sand or to leave the base empty for plecos?

Good to be bare as it is easier to clear pleco poo poo.

    Get L134. They are cuter.

    Cheers

it's a matter of personal preference actually, on whether you want to have substrate on your pleco tank or not.

Re: My L134s and their simple home

Yes i choose to keep the tank bare so that i can clean their poo easier. As for the sex ratio, i am not too sure also. But some bros helped me while choosing so i am guessing that it is a 2 male 3 female colony.

I think you need more L134s. Round up to 8? 4m and 4 F? After all you got 4 caves ma.

if you'd put in 4 males, it'll be WW-III inside.

After 8 then round up to 10?

I will just stick to my 5pcs and keep them well in hope they make babies at some point of their stay with me.

Patience is 1 of my virtues.

Anyway if they breed, it's a bonus. Even if they don't, i still love them all the same.

Re: My L134s and their simple home

I use a thin layer of sand and fluorite, just about 1 cm thick.
I keep colonies of Cherry Shrimp in my pleco breeding colonies and they eat most of the poop and any bits of food the plecos miss.
I have 4 new broods of F2 L134 from fry I raised from just over 2 years ago. I have to set up another breeding colony since I kept about 3 dozen 2 year old fish. The new colony will be in a 40 gal breeder and I will use 4 males and 12 females. The young females are producing only about 15 fry per spawn but the older wild females average about 25 fry and sometimes 30 but they are at least 6 years old.
I use 1 male to every 2 or 3 females.
I only provide one cave per male and make the females find their own hiding places among the pieces of wood and under the pedestal sponge filters(I use Azoo OxygenPlus Bio-Filter #6. They are cheaper and equivalent to a HydroSponge iV. The advantage of the Azoo is that a MaxiJet 600 Power Head fits perfectly where the airlift tube normally goes.
I use 2 filters, one with the power head and the other with an air lift pluis an air stone. maxiJet 600 move 600lph/160 gph. With this much circulation no poop accumulates and I just make water changes.
Old fish breeder. SA Dwarf Cichlids, Hypancistrus sp L260, L333 and Peckoltia L134 breeder. Also Sturisoma, Dwarf Corydoras spp, wild Discus and Killiefish. Like breeding Characins and wild Betta spp too.
