guaranteed by fermentation...as the website says.

All that happy sales talk, is it that good? Might put that into my filter setup during next cleanup.

Someone will ask... so, it's http://www.jbl.de/index_uk.html. At this time, JBL BioFerm is featured on this page as a new product.

i think it works like the dennerle Biotrop-Stabilisator

previously tried it, during that period no major algae problems.. (mabe not due to the usage of the product, if we have a good fertilization regime.. it will oso minimize alga growth)

    Dupla's AlgoControl Delta
    Specially fermented barley straw
    Lasting and effective algae prophylaxis
    No impact on aquarium plants
Suitable for every aquarium up to 240 litres
    Capacity for approx. 3 months

u can get the barley straw separately, netted and place into yr cannister filter.. oso tried, same result as above

Was just reading some of the articles and apparently, it requires light and O2 in order to release its algae preventive chemicals.

Can understand for Dennerle and Dupla it's actually connected at the outflow. But if put inside the cannister filter got O2 but no light, will it still work though?

    V. nice design.

Dupla has a similar product called "DUPLA AlgoControl Delta "
which also makes use of Bartley straw fermentation to control algea.

You can just buy the refill from AquaTechnics for $18-$20 (Not too sure) per refill & put it in your filter.

It has been in the market for quite some time now.

A couple of forum members from AquaPlantnux tried it and had quite
    good review form this product.
Effective for the 1st 3 months, after which need to change again.

take this with a pinch of salt.
    -------------------------------------------
barley straw, not rigorously proven,. probably only effective against eg: green water.

mechanism = strongest candidate so far seems to be presence of h2o2 from the effect of light on lignin breakdown. or the release of humic acids.

in which case, to me: a drip method for release h2o2 (buy from guardian pharmacy at $3 for 500ml 3% solution) and the use of peat seems to have very much the same end result. or use of an ozoniser ($50+ at c32

(eg: obviously cheaper solution that JBL/denerlle/dupla if you insist on using straw)

Hi guys, I think we should promote good housekeeping for our aquarium, that is regular water change, proper and right amount of fertilization, no overfeeding etc. in order to prevent proliferation of algae. This is a better way than buying and using those algae control equipments. We can save up the money for other leisure activities.
