It was named Scarlet on the bag, but i have no idea what strain or species is this. The previous owner told me it's somewhere between Micropoecilia and Poecilia but im not sure. Anyone have idea?

The main headache is It doesnt look like any of those that i've search on the internet.

    Resemblance:

Micropoecilia Orange Line - but mine had full body orange, not just a line..
Scarlet Endlers - mine doesnt have the dots nor the mini doubleswords of the scarlet

By the way, my friend (the giver) told me to cull away those that have some dots... and selective breeding on the full orange body. Could it be just Endlers, which are half way through selective breeding? Hmmm...

The closest I can think of is probably Cnesterodon. Perhaps you might want to email Ted Coletti, the livebearer expert that usually posts a column in TFH magazine on a regular basis.

if your friend advises you on culling, then clearly it is being line bred. you may want to keep a separate unculled population to see what the original morphology is. I am personally not interested in cultivars and bred strains, but it would still be interesting to know what the original fish looks like

oh yeah i will... i do have a colorless male here, see how it turns out.. or perhaps just a slow developing male. We'll see how it goes.. im quite sure it's a selective bred fish, but from what origin, we gotta wait and see

I have another truly wild population of Micropoecilia too... color just came up a little today, some greenish tint.. maybe next week, we can see it's full color and i'll take a photo to share. Btw, it's called Micropoecilia spec Compano

Looks like a endler/guppy hybrid to me

I have some that are very similar as males colour up

The black spot on the chest is the give away!

    Re: Poecilid Fish, Scarlet

harnsheng, I believe your fish are from Campoma, not Compano. Highly likely they're just Endlers, since in the hobby some call them the guppy from Campoma.

Get some pictures and let us see what it's like.

    Re: Poecilid Fish, Scarlet

oh.. let me clarify with the breeder first..

Well, i've observed them for a week now, the characteristic and body shape are slightly different compared to endlers. The color just came out a little.. and the breeder told me, there will be a black ring that wrap the fish body, particularly in the middle. I saw that black ring started to form already...

One more week, im sure one of the male will develop fully :P

    Re: Poecilid Fish, Scarlet

Here it goes, the male are finally sexually active, and really trying hard to mate all the time. Thankfully, there were 5-6 females for him... wont get too much harassment for each female.

    Re: Poecilid Fish, Scarlet

    It's a hybrid....

    Campoma guppy= Poecilia wingei=Endlers livebearer
Goggle Campoma guppy.....they don't look anything like your fish
Most fish sold as endler guppies are crosses because initially only males were sold

I have some that are similar sold to me as Pink endlers.....I very much doubt anyone in Asia(including Australia) has "PURE" Poecilia wingei

It will be interesting to see the fry.....mine throw the odd endler patterened male.....swords/other colours

Pretty fish, very polific, quite saleable.....but not a true specie

    Re: Poecilid Fish, Scarlet

Rod, thats not the Campoma. I havent take photo of the Campoma yet.

This fish in this read are quite similar to Pink endlers. As for pure Poecilia wingei, im not sure about others but i do have some pure one from Adrian HD from Swamp River Aquatics.

Yes, odd patterned male is what i hope to see in the fries. Can give some pictures of the origins rather than guessing around.
