Subject
Only freshwater planted aquarium is the subject of the contest. Anyone interested in the planted aquarium can apply for the contest. In case of open type aquarium, only underwater part becomes the subject of the judgment.
Entry
- Anyone interested in the planted aquarium is welcome to the contest.
- Only unreleased / unpublished work produced by an individual applicant is accepted. (There is no regulation in the aquarium size.)
- We accept only 1(one) layout application with 1(one) image /photo per applicant.
- In case the applicant ranked 27th or higher in the previous contests where he/she used the same layout materials (such as driftwood and stone) or the same layout composition with slight alternations (for example, changing just the plants), the applied work will be the subject of point-deduction.
- The use of house plants or marginal plants, which hardly survives in the water, becomes the subject of point-deduction.
- Please take a picture of whole aquarium from the front side. (The picture taken in angle or the one showing only part of the aquarium becomes the subject of point-deduction.)
We accept a color reversal film and color negative film, also an image taken by digital camera. The copyright of all submitted images to the contest will belong to Aqua Design Amano Co., Ltd. The submitted film, print and media will not be returned to the applicants.

The contest booklet - Every year we publish the contest booklet, containing all the applicants' layout pictures after the final ranking is determined. Anyone can purchase the contest booklet through our online bookstore. We will announce the release of booklet on our web site; www.iaplc.com. The booklet is scheduled to be published around October, 2010.
Judging Criteria & Guidelines
ARTISTIC IMPRESSION POINT(Maximum 100 points)
Evaluate the beauty and sophistication as a piece of art.
TECHNICAL POINT
Creativity (Maximum 20 points)
The overall completeness of the layout and its originality are evaluated.
The use of house plants or emerged plants, which hardly survive under water, becomes a subject of point-deduction.
Composition / Arrangement of plants (Maximum 20 points)
Is the composition of the layout well developed?
Are the aquatic plants appropriately positioned within the aquascape?
Is there a balance within the layout in terms of the colors and shapes of aquatic plants?
Balance between the fish and the layout design (Maximum 20 points)
Creator’s choice of fish for his/her layout is evaluated.
Do the color, size, swimming method and ecology of the fish match the layout?
Natural atmosphere (Maximum 20 points)
Does the layout clearly tell you the creator’s idea of nature?
How is the methods and techniques that the creator uses to render a natural feel in his/her layout?
Aquatic plants’ conditions and Time Progress of layout (Maximum 20 points)
The condition of the aquatic plants in the layout is evaluated.
The time progress of the layout based on the types of plants used and their conditions are evaluated.
Is the layout maintainable over a long period of time?

Some tips. I am not sure how many judges are there. But I do know individual judges go out to catch certain errors. For example, Amano san dislike substrate that is not even/flat at the foreground. It will be good to know who has pet peeve
The trick to scoring high position is to minimise points deduction. Those stubborn ones will never win, of course. This is just like a driving test. A person might be a good driver, if he don't follow the law, he fail.
Another, you will almost certainly fail if you strike kerb during driving test. Likewise, you will rank very low if you decide to leave your thermometer in the tank

Look like this year's participants will topple last year 1342 entries from the ID that I received after registering yesterday morning. If the ID is running on sequential order, I got an over 2000 confirmation number, so there should be over 2000 entries this year.
