Has anyone used the above item b4? Anyone know where I can get it locally? How much does a unit cost? Thanks!

I believe its a product name for a Thermo-Electric water chiller. Stick it in your tank much like the aquarium water heaters we commonly find in LFS.

It's made for small tanks. Do a web search on that name and you'll find out more.

    CoolWorks IceProbe

    Typical Cooling (in degrees Fahrenheit)

A single chiller will cool 10 gallons of water 6-8 degrees, 20 gallons of water 3-4 degrees, and 40 gallons of water 1-2 degrees.

Two chillers will cool 10 gallons of water 10-12 degrees, 20 gallons of water 6-8 degrees, and 40 gallons of water 3-4 degrees.

    Pre-Installation Preparation

Locate the exact position where you intend to bulkhead (install) the IceProbe before drilling any holes. If you intend to install multiple units in a single aquarium, ensure that the units are spaced so that the heat sinks do not contact each other.

Because the IceProbe uses a fan to dissipate heat created during the cooling process, be sure to place it in a clean environment with adequate ventillation. Also, be sure to leave 4-6 inches of open space around the IceProbe to ensure safety and proper function.

    Bulkhead Installation

You can install your IceProbe through the top, side, or bottom of the aquarium, and it will function properly, provided that the fan motor has adequate ventillation. To achieve a watertight installation:

Drill a 1.25-inch diameter hole into your aquarium.
Remove the white nylon nut from the threaded probe.
Insert the probe through the hole with the clear silicon washer on the outside (dry side) of the reservoir wall.
Tighten the nylon nut on the threaded probe.
Important: Do not submerge the entire IceProbe or any electrical wires in water. Only the probe portion of the device should contact water. Also, NEVER plug the IceProbe directly into a 120-VAC electrical wall outlet - always connect the IceProbe to its accompanying power converter, then plug the power converter into a wall outlet.
    Cheers and Regards,
