Hi guys, got a question to ask. I recently spotted a heavily berried yamato shrimp in my tank. From visual inspection, at least 400+ eggs. Did some googling and found out that the larvae need saltwater to grow. Other than that, not much information about when to transfer the mother shrimp to the saltwater tank to hatch the eggs (do I need to do it?) or whether let the mother shrimp hatch the eggs in the main freshwater tank before moving the larvae?

Basically, just asking if anyone has experience breeding yamato shrimps? It would be good if can summarize the basic steps needed to care for the larvae. I know they need green water, but also have no experience in cultivating green water.

Don't feel like letting the larvae die off in the freshwater tank. Seems quite cruel not to do anything about it. Alternatively, I have thought of giving the pregnant mama away to another bro who can care for it better. But i thought I would give it a try.

    Some help, please?

    Re: Breeding Yamato Shrimps

gathered from the information on internet, this is what i will do if i wants to breed amano.
    1) catch the bellied amano and put it in a 2 feet ( bigger tank allow more space for mistake ) half or 1/3 filled with existing tank water.
    2) slowly increase the the water in the breeding tank with sea salt water ( amount have to check in the net )
    3) use air driven filter as filtration.
    4) place existing moss in the tank in the breeding tank.
    5) try to source for some larvae food for the shrimps before they hatches ( do not add too much just in case for ammonia spike.
    6) cover the tank with newspaper warp around on the side.

    good luck to you.

You need to know the specific gravity of the salt water. Also while acclimatising the water to sea water, how will the moss survive?
