WOW! Today I discovered that my female checkerboard has abt 20++ fries following her in my 2 footer planted tank(using aqausoil). I have cardinals, otos, emporor tetras, pencil fish, young apistos and yamato shrimps in it. She is attacking any fish that go near her. Seems like the fries is doing fine(very cute and interesting). Do I hav to feed them? Can I leave it on it own to feed on algae or tiny food particle? What is their chance of survival?

congrats, is your tank matured? you can feed that with live daphina or brineshrimp.. survival rate depends on your water condition, other fishes and parental instinct

My tank is 3-4 mths old.Quite matured and got some algae some more..keke. Do I hav to feed them? I hav put egg yoke this morning. Cant really see them eat, but my other fishes attack greedly. Can see tiny egg particle floating around. 5 mins later I turn on back my filter. Is this the correct way to feed? They are 2-3mm from head to tail can they eat diaphnia or brine shrimp? The female fish is very aggressive in protecting the fries so no problem, but how long will she continue to protect? When shd I remove the fries? Sorry for asking so many questions. Thanks for yr help.[]

It is a type of discus.
Take care of your water, and your water will take care of your fish. Clear water may not be clean water. To obtain good water quality, nothing beat water change.

Dun need to feed the fry now, it will feed on their parent body slime. Remove them after 2 weeks, it not it will stress the parent fish.

Checkerboard is a dwarf cichlid. Same group as apisto too!
