I tried them twice as mentioned in johanne's thread, paros are such difficult fish. Popped them into a seasoned tank and never saw them ever. They dont mix well with other slow moving species, do they? Black water a must?
This is a pic of my parosphromenus alfredi (gotten from johannes, very healthy fish) and their territory. They are very shy but active fish (i know it sounds contradicting). They are active as they enjoy chasing each other around the place, and exploring the tank. however, once you take out your camera, they turn into shy mode, and you will take a long time to take good photos of them.
Male with black throat (maybe alpha male?)
Normal male:

Interesting. Mine are very active..swimming all day all over the 1x1x1ft tank...in and out of the ceramic tubes I have ... searching for food. They're PIGS. Non stop eating all day - daphnia, brine shrimp, blood worms (the small, tiny type). So far so good...I have them with a couple of mini cories. The filter is an air powered sponge...had a OHF before and they just didn't like it...never came out. I'm tempted to get more...hahaha...I always want more of EVERYTHING!
my tank's extremely heavily planted, does that give them alot of chance to hide?

is this species really difficult to keep?
Hehehe. Think about it. Even someone with my waistline can hide in a heavily forested area...those tiny fishes can surely hide in a heavily planted tank. HOWEVER, they must be in heaven. My cube only has one Java Fern on a coconut shell and several ceramic tubes. If they really wanted to hide, they easily could but they swim around quite fearlessly. Mind you, it took them a few days before they would do that. I do use katapang extract though, which makes it a bit dark and makes them more comfortable.
I don't think so. I usually give up on fishes that are troublesome within a few days. I have no patience. These little guys are so damned cute. Even cuter than my dario dario, but I still prefer my betta channoides. hahaha.
Also gotten from Johannes but I was wondering if it is really Alfredi, cause it does nt look alfredi to me at the moment. Looks more like nagyi.
Johannes can confirm if Alfredi? Thanks alot.
God will make a way, where there seems to be no way
Realised that i deleted the set-up pics. here are the new pics

Hi all, very nice updates of the Paros, i am glad they are all doing very well!
Ok, according to the supplier, these were caught from the locality near where the original P. alfredi (Kota Tinggi) was caught but nowhere near the location of P. nagyi (Kuantan), if you look at the first male from Lucas' pictures, it does have some red in the dorsal and caudal peduncle area. These redness is totally absent in P. nagyi. Still, however, there has been some confusion as to what this species, so at this point in time, can be labelled as P. aff. alfredi but not P. nagyi.
On the other hand, there is a possibility of it being a naturally occuring variant of P. nagyi, or an intermediary species.

It does look like the alfredi they caught.

very nice fish. Scope introduced this fish to me long ago, but never have a chance to own any.
They look like wild bettas but are they as agressive as apistos?
