How to prepare rocks before usage

Hi guys

I have just gotten some iwagumi style rocks from farm.I soak them in water a day & next morning found that the water emitted some funny smell (machaim bleech smell)..

As this is first time getting such rocks so is it normal?? or do i need to specially treat them before putting them in my tank??

maybe the farm already bleach the rocks before you gets them.
1) try to use acid to test if it will react. ( bubbles form )
if there is no bubble, its safe for aquatic scape
2) soak the rocks in hot water. ( don't boil them. the rocks might explode )
3) scrub the rock surface with toothbrush to scrub away the remaining soil / dirt.
4) soak them in hot water again
5) leave them under the sun for total dryout.

Nornally just a scrub will do, but if you are kiasu, just pour hot water on them and leave it to soak for a while...
