    Hi,

What causes white fluffy stuff to grow on the diffuser? Could it be the baking powder that I added to the tank?

    Thanks.

Is the diffuser connected to some DIY CO2?

    Looks like mould to me...
just disconnect the diffuser and clean off the stuff.

Yes, it was hooked up to a DIY CO2 setup when the white fluff appeared. Although I have been using CO2 for more than a month, this is the first time that I noticed such mould on the diffuser.

I have cleaned the diffuser, and it looks okay so far. May I know what is the cause of such mould, so that I can prevent it in the future?

I had this before with my flipper with DIY CO2. After I rescaped the tank, dunno why it disappeared, which I am glad.

    One of those mysteries.

Bubble your CO2 into another bottle of tap water (much like a big bubble counter), this will reduce the amount of fungi present at the CO2 output in your tank.

to prevent the white fluffy stuff from getting into you tank, run your co2 output through a bubble counter before going into your diffuser.

Alternatively, you can put in some SAEs. Had the problem before on my DIY CO2 and after putting in 2 SAEs, haven't seen the white stuff again....

the white stuff u posted seems to be the white cottony stuff theya re always talking about. I used to do DIY CO2 and stopped recently after upgraded to canister.

What you can do is like what they told u. Connect a bubble counter between the CO2 mixture container and the tank. Also, someone told me that adding baking soda/bicarbonate of soda to slow down CO2 production will also caused the white stuff, which I find quite true. Cos after I stopped using baking soda, the white stuff doesn't appear anymore.

    Brigitte
