I brought one last month. The green with red spot one.(green tiger)
It is doing well in my tank. Shooting new stems and the red spots getting more prominent.
Did you have sufficient lighting and CO2 in the first place?
hi folks
I appreciate experts can give some advice here.
It seems that I never have luck with lotuses (tiger, red and green types)> They kept melting away at me.
Is this generally due to lack of CO2/nutrients, high PH, or low light or high temperature. My lotuses so far are quite low in height, so I presume they are not so directly heated up by my lights to melt away.
My tank parameters are as follows ...
- PH 6.8 - 7.0
- KH 4
- temp 29 degrees
- does of K, and lushgro trace according to prescription
Never had a chance to measure other parameters

I had this problem, but solved it when i added TMG and some stick fert beside the lotus/lily. so far still ok..

What's your tank size? What amount of K and traces you're dosing? How's the bioload and lighting like?
CO2 not enough. Try increasing it to 30ppm. Getting precise PH value is important.

tank size abt 280 L
Lighting - 224 watt
Amount K I put - not too sure how to calc this, but I am using Dr Mallick's KCL powder. I followed his prescription
Traces - I used Dr Malick's LushGRO, and put abt 3 capfuls of it.
I just added a HORTI TAB at the roots.
I took my PH again and this time, I got a 6.4-6.6 reading, much lower than the one I took in the morning. I believe the one in the morning is low because I just the timer just switched on the CO2 flow.

What is the size of your gravel grain.....

The title below my name does not make me a guru...listen at your own risk!...
Planted too deep?
The crown (the point where the leaves sprout) of the plant should be showing.

Lotus do take in lot's of nutrients via roots. Care to share wat kinda base ferts (if any) you're using. Fert sticks/tabs are knaown to help... do give it a try.
It's better if you could provide more info for others to try to figure wat could be the 'root' of the problem. Things like tank dimension, lighting etc would also help. Do share.
Hi Sher Choo,
I did gave my tank parameters in an earlier reply ...

Did you put in any base fert?
For me I've used Jobe's Fert spikes, and it help tremendously with my red tiger Lotus.
Jobe sticks...a big no no. It contains urea (ammonia)...unless you want a massive algae bloom, I would seek other form of fertilization to help the growth of the plant. Water column fertilization is flexible and easy to correct if things are overdosed...just do a large water change to correct it. []
Plant Physiology by Taiz and Zeiger
Some plants are heavy root feeders and fertilizing the water column just wouldn't be the same as sticking in a root monster / jobe stick or two.
ThEoDoRe
Plants go for the easier way of uptake which is through the leaves (water column). It is only when the nutrients in the water column is depleted do they divert their energy to the root level for nutrients uptake. Imagine people can grow crypts well with just gravel and water column fertilization (No jobe sticks or root monsters added).

K is the second most important nutrient after C. So dosing a good amount is important. For calculating proper dosage of KCL, refer to this. K target range 20-30ppm.----------------

Not sure how big is your 3 capfuls. If you're using LushGro Micro, the amount per dose should be around 3.5ml. You may inject some into substrate to further boost growth.

Hi Naturetan
My tank is abt 290l, how many 3.5ml "doses" you reccommending puting per week
Depending on your tank consumption rate, once a week should probably be enough. Do keep us inform about any result.
