I have been growing C Nevilli & C Willissi (I think) in a 45lt tank with great success.
My intention is to strip this tank down and use all the plants in a 140 lt Bow front tank.
Now for my questions.
1 What is the minimum depth of substrate I can use?
2 What is the maximum depth of substrate I can use The area the C Willissi will be growing in will be 75mm-150,mm.
The filtration will be a trickle system.
I am thinking could I put in a UGF system as well.
I have been using UGFs for many years and never a problem

From my experience with planted tank previously when I was using about 100mm of sand, my cryptocorynes from sri lanka were propagating so well (with lots of fertiliser added into the water) that I could lift up the entire bunch of cryptocorynes with the substrate intact due to the closely knitted network of rhizomes and roots that was formed.
Therefore I think your suggested 75mm to 150mm should be fine as a minimum. As for maximum, I don't think the cryptocorynes would be the limiting factor, more likely it will be the aesthetic consideration that would be the deciding factor, i.e. you wouldn't want to see too much of the side of the substrate right?
Thank you for all that information.
