Jacian,
I am using a total of 99W of the energy-saving type and it says that the illumination is 300W(each 33W bulb is equivalent to 100W illum).
So, should i treat my lighting right now as being 99W or 300W?
Thanks,
Zul
Thanks bclee for providing the following information.
===========
The type of lamp we normally used for downlights are the 2-pin type with 2 U-shape tubes.
This type has incorporated the starter in the lamp and is normally used with a copper core ballast.
Wattage available: 10W, 13W, 18W & 26W
Another type similar to the above is the 2-pin with 1 U-shape tube.
This type also has incorporated the starter in the lamp and is normally used with a copper core ballast. We normally see this used in our table lamps.
Wattage available: 7W, 9W & 11W
This is a 4-pin with 1 U-shape tube.
It does not have a starter. We normally use it with an electronic ballast or control gear.
Wattage available: 18W, 24W, 36W, 40W & 55W
This is the type we use in our aquarium lighting because of the availability of higher wattage tubes.
The type mentioned with intergrated ballast are the ones we called energy-saving bulbs. We use it in place of incadenscent bulbs.
No need for ballast or starter, all built-in.
Wattage available: 11W, 15W, 20W & 23W

That will be 99W.
Usually when we refer to wattage, we make it in reference to flourescent light.
The equivalent statement means:
33W energy saving (which is FL) = 100W (incadescent bulb)

bclee,
does that mean my lighting is insufficient(high light requirement) for a 4X2X2 tank.
Thanks,
Zul
that's right.
you'll need to aim for at least 3wpg.
appreciate if you could post queries by starting a new thread.

FL should be the coolest.
Does anyone out there know where to get replacments for PL light and how much it cost? I am using the 4 sets of 4-pin with 1 U-shape tube. (PL-T4 24 R/B light)
Went to shops at Pasir Ris but all sold out and next shipment is in end March.
PM Orgas. He could help you.

Thanks. I tried PM him but still no replies..
Thanks jacian bclee on the thread...found it useful.
Not sure if someone could advise?
I have a 30cm by 20cm by 20cm planted tank with PL light of 9W.
Am thinking of getting a 11W light for the tank...would I be able to just replace the tube?
Is FL light better or PL light? I am very new. Pls help. Spectrum, efficiency, power consumption, heat..

hi all,
i have learnt that for freshwater plant tank, besides wattage, we need to have at least 6000K or 6500K, which can be readily available in FL light.
however for PL light, seems like the main concern is the wattage achievable (i mean for limited space). how about the K-value, the spectrum?
pls enlighten...
hi there is one Energy-efficient 27-watt compact fluorescent bulb

hi guys, just digging up an old thread and reading and was wondering if u guys can help me... how much lighting is sufficient if my tank is abt 2.5-3ft in height? I currently have 1 x 36W and 2 x 11W which I think is not enough as the moss and plants r not growing that well...
Thanks a lot for the info provided on PL lights. It is very enlightening.
how is PL light different from T5 or normal FL lights?
